Hoda Kotb announced her Exit from NBC’s ‘Today’ in Early 2025 with a sentiment, “it is time for me to turn the page”
Hoda Kotb announced her Exit from NBC’s ‘Today’
Hoda Kotb announced on Thursday that she would be leaving NBC News “TODAY”, the network’s flagship morning program, in early 2019.
She made her decision when she turned 60 a month ago. She said: “I realized it was time to turn the pages at 60 and try something new.” Her co-hosts were also present.
Kotb and Savannah Guthrie have been co-anchoring “TODAY” since early 2018. The first all-female team to anchor the show was this one.
Kotb’s departure is announced as “Today” continues to do well in modern ratings. The recent NBC telecast of Paris Olympics helped “Today’s” audience grow in the third-quarter of this year. This is the first time since the first quarter in 2018 that “Today” has gained a quarter more viewers than its rival. In recent months, “GMA” has struggled with declining ratings. This is especially true among the audience between 25 and 54 years old — the group Madison Avenue sponsors most desire.
Who Could Switch Hoda Kotb on Today?
There hasn’t been a replacement named for the long-time Today anchor who confirmed her departure. However, there are some broadcasters, journalists and podcast hosts who could be interested in the position. Below are three potential candidates for the position.
Craig Melvin
Melvin, a two-time Emmy Award winner, began working for Today when he became a weekday anchor in 2018. He had previously worked at MSNBC and NBC News from 2011 to 2018. The journalist is currently co-hosting the 3rd Hour of Today with Roker, Jones and Dylan Dreyer.
Melvin interviewed a journal in August about what it was like to join the morning show. He opened up and expressed his gratitude towards Roker for how welcoming and warm he’d been.
“I’m new to the show, and Today Show has a delicate eco-system. It has been around for over 70 years. Melvin, 45 years old, said, “It’s an American institution.” The inner circle is tightly guarded. “They had invited me to the inner circle and he was first to welcome me openly.”
Willie Geist
Geist joined the morning show permanently in 2012 after years of hosting “Morning Joe” and filling in for anchors at Today. In 2016, Geist was appointed the sole host of TODAY, where he covers the news and profiles in depth on the cultural trends shaping our society.
“Sunday Sitdowns” allows Geist to chat with the most famous Hollywood stars and learn about the stories that led them to success. John Krasinski is on the guest list, along with Julia Louis Dreyfus and Mindy Kaling.
Katy Tur
Tur is a broadcast journalist for NBC News, and MSNBC. She has been hosting Katy Tur reports at the latter since 2021. During her tenure at the network the journalist made frequent appearances on Early Today Today, and Meeting the Press.
Tur, a journalist who is committed to her profession, has previously spoken out about how she fights misinformation and works to educate and inform her audience while not influencing them.
