I’ve been to dozens of all-inclusive resorts in the last few decades. But I’ll always remember the first one that I visited with my children. The kids were amazed that they could order whatever they wanted. It was amazing how easy it was for me to plan our family vacation, with all of the meals, drinks and activities included in a single price.

All-inclusive resorts for families are not always cheap, but they can be a great value when you consider all that you get. The ease of travel is a huge plus for parents who are busy. How do you pick the best all-inclusive resort when it’s your first time? Price, location, convenience, and amenities are all important. These are my top recommendations for all-inclusive hotels based on my experience as a parent, travel journalist and traveler.

1. Migis Lodge

South Casco, Maine

There are many all inclusive resorts in the United States, with many of them geared towards families. There are many great resorts that do not require a passport for those who are new to all-inclusive and don’t want to take their kids on an international trip. You can enjoy Maine’s natural beauty at Migis Lodge on the Sebago Lake shores. Since generations, freshwater activities like fishing, kayaking, sailing, and swimming have been available. Waterskiing and wakeboarding are also offered. Tennis, pickleball and disc golf are all-available for those who prefer to stay on the ground. Basketball, walking in the pine-scented forest, and tennis awaits. Migis Lodge is open seasonally, from June to October. It offers both main lodge rooms and private cottages ranging in size from studios up to large multi-bedroom units. The rates include lodging, three meals per day, and supervised programming for children. New England’s weekly lobster roast is a New England Tradition.

2. Great Camp Sagamore

Great Camp Sagamore is another family-friendly, all-inclusive resort located in the United States. Granby, Colorado

A dude ranch is an excellent introduction to all-inclusive vacations for families who love horseback riding. C Lazy U Ranch is a sprawling guest ranch with moose and black bears. Elks, eagles and wildflowers are also present. The heated indoor arena is available for equestrian activities year-round, in case of bad weather. Experienced counselors in the kids’ club supervise the day. You can also join the wranglers and the horses on the feed wagon to watch them eat breakfast. In the mountains, you’ll work up an appetite, so three meals are included, including an upscale meal.

4. Casa Maat

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico

Casa Maat is one of the best in the area. The 45-room JW Marriott Loscabos Beach Resort and Spa is located in the hotel. Casa Maat’s guests can use the Marriott’s amenities, such as the kid’s club or spa. Casa Maat does not advertise itself as an all-inclusive, but meals are covered in the price. A generous breakfast buffet is offered, and a snack is available poolside at midday. Cocktails and a light dinner will satisfy your hunger in the evening.The resort is centered on a stunning swimming pool. The Marriott has a variety of pools where you can take a swim.

5. Tyler Place Family Resort

Highgate Springs, Vermont

Vermont is known for its fall foliage, covered bridges and maple syrup. However, don’t forget about the summer months. Tyler Place Family Resort, a seasonal all inclusive resort, embraces families in true Yankee hospitality. The majority of families choose to stay a week in order to enhance the feeling of summer camp.

Parents of babies and toddlers love the resort’s comprehensive program. The resort’s heart is its supervised children’s club. It is composed of 10 age-stretched groups, from infants to teenagers. Staff use the private beach, gardens, meadows and forests as playgrounds. Children can swim, ride bikes and hike in the wild. You forgot to bring the stroller. The resort offers a wide range of equipment to cover any items you may have forgotten.

It is located on a pristine stretch along Grace Bay. Water sports abound, and Pirates Island Waterpark offers a water-themed fantasy, complete with sandbars, sloshing lazy rivers, and surf simulators.

This is a large resort with more than 700 rooms. It’s easy to find your way around because it is spread out over five different “residential village”. The children’s program, which is run by trained nannies and in partnership with Sesame Street, adds a fun element with weekly character parades and activities featuring Elmo Ernie and Cookie Monster. A variety of food trucks makes it easy to eat non-stop.

7. Grand Velas Riviera Maya

Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Grand Velas Riviera Maya, located less than an hour away from Cancun airport, is nestled in a protected mangrove forest on a beautiful beach with three wonderful swimming pools. The culinary options are great for all ages, and kids are treated as royalty. Do not leave without having the chilaquiles breakfast. The Baby Concierge will arrange everything from tiny bathrobes for babies to massages. Children’s clubs offer hands-on workshops and cooking classes. Teen club activities include Fortnite tournaments and beach volleyball. You can relax in the spa while the kids are playing.

8. Lopesan Costa Bávaro Resort

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Many all-inclusive resorts are clustered around Bavaro Beach, in Punta Cana. The water there is a Crayola blue shade and the sand is like sugar. There is music playing so that no one can hear your child whining. Lopesan Costa Bavaro, a beachfront resort which is relatively new and is perfect for those who are looking to have an all-inclusive vacation.

After clearing customs, you can start applying sunscreen as soon as possible. The resort is divided up into three sections with a variety of swimming pools and a great waterpark. There are many activities to keep you entertained, including a kid’s club and teen lounge. You can also find ice cream shops, arcades, an ice cream parlor or candy shop.

9. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort

Savusavu, Fiji

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Fiji is a must-see for anyone looking to experience their first all-inclusive resort. The “Bula Club”, the resort’s kids club, is one of the best I’ve seen. The resort’s “Bula Club” is the best kids club I’ve ever seen. Even children up to the age of six have their own manny or nanny. The resort immerses guests in Fijian Culture, from weaving baskets to witnessing a kava ceremony and meeting local children. The resort is the epitome eco-friendly luxury. Guests stay in bures, which are private cottages. The staff will even do your laundry. This is proof that the all-inclusive package at Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort really does include everything.
